Standard Firestopper: Installation Pictorial

 

The Standard Sleeve System consist of: A (4 inch) long sleeve, (2) washers, (2) sliding compression couplings, (2) plenum rated bushings, and a package of Unique intumescent fire stop putty. Everything you need!
Remove the sleeve from the packaging and loosen the couplings. Use the hardware like a "slide hammer" to remove the bushing from one end. Leave the second bushing on the sleeve.
Use a Uni-bit or stepped type bit to ensure the hole is made to the O D of the size sleeve selected. Take care not to damage anything on the other side as you make the hole for the Automotive System. Also take care not to make the hole any larger than needed to get the sleeve to fit in the firewall.
Use a small amount of the putty supplied to form a small ring (1/16 ") to place behind the coupling to form a seal from smoke and gas during normal operation as it forms a seal around the sleeve and the firewall.
After adjusting the first coupling, insert the first half of the System in the hole you made. Always install the sleeve FROM the most difficult side to access. Before installing the system, apply a small string of the putty round the sleeve, between the system and the firewall. This will form a tight seal.
After Installing the first half of the system through the wall, go to the other side of the firewall and install the washer and the coupling.
While holding the sleeve firmly against the firewall, tighten the set screw on the second coupling.
Install the second bushing and as much of the supplied intumescent fire stop putty as you can pack in the sleeve. Use a blunt packing tool like a wooden dowel to permeate the sleeve with putty. Take care not to damage the cables or wires.

Now you are done. Sleeve may be re-entered but take care not to contaminate the putty with dirt or grease before it is re-installed. Do not fill system with more wires and cables than 50% of the annular space of the system.
